Mitt Romney’s new Utah home is an ultra-luxe log cabin

Now he's adding a Utah log cabin to the portfolio.

Don't be fooled, though: This is no rough-hewn Lincoln-style abode.

The 2012 GOP presidential nominee and his wife, Ann, just bought the "slopeside mansion" in the Park City area of Deer Valley, according to the local Park Record. They'd had a home in Park City from 1995 until 2009, and he led the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah, but they apparently hadn't owned property in the state again until this year.

"As featured in Architectural Digest," the listing read, "this 'Utah Rustic' home gave renowned local architect Fred Babcock the opportunity to stretch beyond what one assumed could normally be achieved in log construction." It's made of "whole logs" and has a "massive stone fireplace" in the great room. "Six bedroom suites accommodate family and friends."

The asking price: $8.9 million for 8,730 square feet -- six bedrooms and eight bathrooms -- on half an acre of land along the Success Ski Trail. The home was built in 1991.

This isn't the first luxe log cabin we've seen lately. The world's richest woman, Christy Walton, recently listed her Wyoming estate, complete with stainless steel Japanese soaking tub, for $12.5 million. Apparently these high-end rustic homes -- "so large, so luxe and so loaded with amenities that Daniel Boone would hardly know where to hang his coonskin hat" -- are a bit of a trend among the well heeled.
