Siaya, Kenya: Siaya gubernatorial candidate on ODM ticket Cornel Rasanga retained his seat following Thursday's by-election where he had taken a early lead when the vote tallying exercise kicked off.

Rasanga took an early lead and maintained the gap as the results for the by-elections tallying neared the end.
After tallying in 665 all polling stations, ODM's Rasanga led with 107,737, NAP's William Oduol’s followed with 64,106. Independent Candidate Noah Migudah trailed at a distant third with 1,446 votes.
These are provisional results projected by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission at the Siaya county tallying centre.
Voter turn out stood at 55.46% with 173,289 valid votes. Registered voters in the county are 312,441.
Oduol conceded defeat just before the vote tallying execise was concluded, saying he would support the governor, Rasanga, in driving the development agenda of Siaya County. He called upon his supporters to calm down and accept the by-election results.
"As a fighter, I have to concede defeat and offer support to the person who has defeated me. I will support him for the development of Siaya," said Oduol.
He added that he is going to put the governor in check, to ensure that he uses the funds allocated to the county correctly.
Most stations delayed in delivering results due to the heavy rains that pounded the area.
The exercise went on smoothly with just two isolated minor violence cases reported where two voters were assaulted and sustained minor injuries.
One incident occurred at Kochieng' polling station in Alego-Usonga constituency and at Yala Township in Gem constituency.
