Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti says government will not conduct a private independent land audit as demanded by the FF Plus. Nkwinti says the party is welcome to conduct its own audit if wants to.

FF Plus spokesperson Pieter Groenewaldt earlier called on the minister to conduct an independent audit to determine how much land was owned by the state as well as black and white South Africans.

Groenewaldt earlier said the current land audit was confusing and that an independent firm should to come on board. But Minister Nkwinti says it is not necessary.

"If the Freedom Front Plus wants to do that they are free to do it. They must just pay for it and get somebody to do it. We will not do it, we are satisfied with what we have got."

Nkwinti says there is second phase of dealing with the land counting. "In phase two we will deal with who is owning which property of the land and what are they doing there and what is the contract between them and the state."

The Minister says there is about 7% of land which remains unaccounted for.
